New commissioners approved: 3G auction moves a step closer
Updated Date:2010-2-24
Four new directors of Thai regulator the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have received royal endorsement, clearing one of the bureaucratic and legal obstacles preventing the country from holding a long-delayed auction for four 3G mobile network operating licences. The Nation newspaper reports that the new commissioners were rubber-stamped after the Royal Household asked the Prime Minister’s Office to double-check their backgrounds following an investigation of one individual by the National Anti-Corruption Commission. The new NTC line-up must now work to finalise the process of awarding the 2100MHz frequency concessions by October this year, when the six-year terms of the regulator’s remaining three board members end.
